Scroll down to see more details.  For 4 & 5 Ply: Two strands are solid throughout the cake while the other strands create a gradient. Color selection for the gradient portion is from the center of the cake outwards.  For 8 Ply: Four strands are solid throughout the cake while the other strands create a gradient. Color selection for the gradient portion is from the center of the cake outwards. 

Adding sparkle does not change the weight of the yarn. Sparkle Add-On Disclaimer: Sparkle thread is a different material than the cotton base and has more stretch. Because of this, the sparkle strand(s) may not always align perfectly with the cotton and can appear slightly looser or tighter in places. Each cake is hand wound with care. While I do my best to maintain even tension, minor variation is a natural part of the hand-winding process. For best results when working with sparkle, running the yarn through a bead is recommended to help minimize unevenness.

 • 4 ply is fingering weight (Weight 2)
 • 5 ply is sport weight (Weight 3)
 • 8 ply is DK weight (Weight 4)

Recommended Hook and Needle Sizes: 

Hook and needle sizes are recommendations only. Individual tension and project type may require adjustments.

  • 4 Ply: Hook Sizes – B (2.25 mm) to E (3.5 mm) & Needle Sizes – 1 (2.25 mm) to 3 (3.25 mm)
  • 5 Ply: Hook Sizes – E (3.5 mm) to 7 (4.5 mm) & Needle Sizes – 3 (3.25 mm) to 5 (3.75 mm)
  • 8 Ply: Hook Sizes – G (4.0 mm) to H (5.0 mm) & Needle Sizes – 6 (4.0 mm) to 8 (5.0 mm)

    My custom combination cake is perfection! I chose charcoal as the solid color throughout, and then royal, amethyst, and fuschia as the gradient colors. Absolutely in love with my yarn cake and the endless possibilities for color combos
